Alloy 410 stainless steel or UNS S41000 is 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel that can be provided heat treatment for obtaining the wide ranges of mechanical properties. This alloy is having very good corrosion resistance in addition to the high hardness and high strength. In an annealed condition this stainless steel is ductile and might be formed. It remains magnetic in both heats treated as well as in annealed conditions.
Alloy 410 stainless steel is resistant to atmospheric condition, chemical, and water. It can be used in the atmosphere that is containing a weak or diluted acetic acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. The alloy is resisting to the foods containing acids. 410 SS can be used at the de-aerated water or chlorinated water. It works very well in gas and an oil application wherein de-aerated and low hydrogen sulfide exists. The alloy is fully prone to the chloride attack, especially in the oxidizing atmosphere. This alloy is resisting oxidation to temperature 700 Deg C consistently and to 816 Deg C on the intermittent basis.
